What happens during the year in our region? Having been Capital of Culture in 2008, both Stavanger and Sandnes are used to handling all types of events and delivering top-class events. In fact, the entire region comes together across municipal boundaries and works to make the events a success.
There are plenty of events to choose from; the big annual ones that most people are familiar with are e.g. Norway's largest food festival, Gladmat, the roller ski race Blink Skifestival, Maijazz, Stavanger Chamber Music Festival, running festivals such as Stavanger Marathon and Tre sjøersløpet, the cycling races Nordsjørittet and Tour of Norway, the strength test Trolljegerprøven, the music festivals Utopia, Mablis and Jærdagen & Jærnåttå, the chess tournament Norway Chess, Tomatfestivalen, Livsgledefestivalen, Egersund Visefestival and so on and so forth.

Guest artists from both Norway and abroad will be visiting the city for three months to leave their mark on Stavanger! New street artworks, exhibitions and events will emerge during these months.
Kapittel, the Stavanger International Festival for Literature and Freedom of Expression, is among Norway's largest literary festivals and has developed into an important literary arena both nationally and internationally.

Nordsjørittet is a 91 km bike race that runs from Egersund in the south to Sandnes in the north. The trail goes through forest and mountain, along the North Sea Road, Vestlandske hovedvei and Kongeveien - in other words, great scenery.
