Region Stavanger’s annual climate account covers selected emissions from its own operations, including electricity use, business travel and waste. The latest report shows that business travel is the largest source of reported emissions when electricity is calculated using the location-based method. Both flight activity and reimbursed driving increased in 2025, contributing to higher reported emissions than in the previous year.

The report also presents a market-based calculation for electricity. The considerable difference between the two calculation methods illustrates why the method, reporting boundary and underlying assumptions must be clearly stated when climate figures are communicated.

Waste is weighed and divided into different categories. Although most recorded waste was source-separated in 2025, the total amount of waste increased. A high sorting rate should therefore be viewed alongside total waste volumes and does not by itself demonstrate a reduction in resource use.

Region Stavanger’s current measures include monitoring energy use, business travel and waste; working to reduce purchasing and material use; using motion-controlled lighting; and participating in HjemJobbHjem, which makes it easier for employees to walk, cycle or use public transport to and from work.

The climate account covers Region Stavanger’s own operations, not the total climate impact of tourism across the destination. Detailed figures, calculation methods and developments over time are available in the annual reports.
